Flt Lt Kent joined the Air Training Corps at Prestatyn as a 13-year-old cadet in December 1999, and enjoyed a full and varied cadet career over seven years. He was appointed as a Cadet Warrant Officer - the highest cadet rank - in February 2005.
Upon reaching 20 years of age in July 2006, he moved onto an adult volunteer role, and was appointed as a Civilian Instructor, before re-entering uniform as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer - Sergeant (ATC) - in February 2008. He was commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) Branch as a Pilot Officer in March 2010 and took up command of No 2193 (Prestatyn) Squadron ATC in the rank of Flight Lieutenant RAFVR(T) in September of the same year.
Today, as well as fulfilling his role as Officer Commanding No 2193 Squadron ATC, Flt Lt Kent is an active member of staff within No 2 Welsh Wing and beyond. He was appointed Wing Sports Officer at the start of the 2013/14 season and is responsible for the organisation of all Inter-Squadron sports competitions, organising attendance at Inter-Wing sports competitions and also assists at Inter-Region sports competitions; Flt Lt Kent is the Project Officer for the Wing Road Marching Team - aspiring towards the Nijmegen Vierdaagse Marches each summer; and is also the Wing Music Officer, developing participation is Music and Bands across North Wales, as well as assisting North Region Music Services on their Music Camps.
Outside of the Air Cadet Organisation, Flt Lt Kent is a Cover Supervisor at Prestatyn High School and an Interviewer and Trainer for the American Institute of Foreign Study, recruiting UK staff for American Summer Camp programmes.
Flt Lt Kent is also the Vice Chair of the ISPY anti-bullying initiative based in Prestatyn.
